I’ve been listening to the new FEE cd, “Hope Rising”; it’s quickly becoming one of my favorites. There are lots of great tracks, but one in particular has really been speaking to me lately, “Everything Falls”. Check out the lyrics:
(VERSE 1)
You said You’d never leave or forsake me, When You said this life is gonna shake me, You said this world is gonna bring trouble on my soul, But this I know…
(CHORUS 1)
When everything falls apart, Your arms hold me together. When everything falls apart, You’re the only hope for this heart. When everything falls apart and my strength is gone, I find You mighty and strong. You keep holding on. You keep holding on!
(VERSE 2)
When I see darkness all around me, When I see tragedy has found me, I still believe Your faithful arms will never let me go. Still I know…
(CHORUS)
When everything falls apart, Your arms hold me together. When everything falls apart, You’re the only hope for this heart. When everything falls apart and my strength is gone, I find You mighty and strong. You keep holding on. You keep holding on!
(BRIDGE)
Sorrow will last for the night, But hope is rising with the sun, It’s rising with the sun, There will be storms in this life, But I know You have overcome, You have overcome…
(CHORUS)
When everything falls apart, Your arms hold me together. When everything falls apart, You’re the only hope for this heart. When everything falls apart and my strength is gone, I find You mighty and strong. You keep holding on. You keep holding on!
The Bible is clear that we are going to face trials of many kinds; it’s inevitable, because we live in a world that has been tainted by sin. The question for us then becomes, “How will we deal with adversity when everything falls apart?” It’s not “if everything falls apart”, it’s “when everything falls apart”.
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” (James 1:2-4)
It’s quite hard to consider the trials of life, as “Joy”, because they bring heartache, suffering, and pain. But yet, somehow, God uses them to refine us, and to remind us that He has a much larger plan; one that we cannot see, because we have a very limited view. It’s important to remember that humanity has a very finite view of life, while God has a very infinite view of life.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
So, how do we find comfort? That’s a great question; one that I don’t have a lot of answers to. But, here’s what I do know: we have to trust that God knows what He’s doing, and cling to the HOPE that He has provided for us: His Son, Jesus Christ.
I’m learning to trust. I’m learning to cling tight to the hope I have in Christ. How about you? What do you cling to, and what do you do, “When Everything Falls Apart”?
